Frequently Asked Questions
What is a celebrant?
A celebrant is a professionally trained individual who creates and delivers bespoke, non-religious or semi-religious ceremonies for life’s most significant moments — including weddings, vow renewals, naming ceremonies, funerals, and celebrations of life.
Unlike traditional ceremonies with set scripts, a celebrant ceremony is entirely personalised. It reflects your values, beliefs, personality, and story — making it truly one-of-a-kind.
How is a celebrant different from a registrar?
Great question! Here’s how celebrants and registrars differ:
• A registrar is employed by the local authority to legally register marriages and deaths. Registrar-led wedding ceremonies are legal, but follow a standard script with limited flexibility in wording, content, or location (must be licensed).
• A celebrant offers complete flexibility. You can have your ceremony anywhere — from a forest clearing to your back garden — and include anything meaningful to you (personal vows, symbolic rituals, cultural elements).
✨ Note: In England and Wales, a celebrant-led wedding is not yet legally binding. Most couples choose to complete the legal paperwork at a registry office separately, often for under £100.
Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Absolutely — very!
I proudly support and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community in all its diversity. Whether you’re planning a same-sex wedding, a gender affirmation naming ceremony, or any other significant milestone, your identity, love, and story will be respected, honoured, and celebrated with joy and warmth.
🏳️🌈 Love is love — and all love is welcome here.
Can we have our ceremony wherever we want?
Yes! One of the biggest advantages of a celebrant-led ceremony is location freedom. Whether you’re dreaming of a beach at sunset, your favourite woodland spot, a quirky venue, or your own back garden — I’m there.
There’s no need for the venue to be licensed because no legal declarations are made during the ceremony itself.
Will our ceremony be legally binding?
Not currently in England and Wales. If you’re having a wedding or civil partnership, you’ll need to register it legally with a registrar, usually at your local registry office. This can be done in a short, simple appointment — often just a few days before or after your celebrant-led ceremony.
Your celebrant ceremony will then be the one that truly feels like your real wedding — filled with emotion, meaning, and personal touches.
What types of ceremonies do you offer?
I create and deliver bespoke ceremonies for:
• Weddings
• Vow Renewals
• Naming Ceremonies (including gender affirmation and family blending)
• Funerals and Celebrations of Life
• Scattering of Ashes or Memorial Services
Each one is personalised to reflect you, your story, and your values.
Do you write the ceremony script for us?
Yes — every script is completely unique and written just for you. You’ll have full input along the way and can review and tweak the script until it feels just right. I’m also happy to help write vows, readings, or dedications if needed.
Can we include religious or spiritual elements?
Yes — if that’s important to you. Celebrant ceremonies can be non-religious, spiritual, or a mix of traditions and beliefs. From a favourite hymn to a handfasting ritual or a moment of quiet reflection, we’ll shape the ceremony to suit your values.
Do you offer ceremonies for gender affirmation or name changes?
Yes, with pride and compassion. Naming ceremonies aren’t just for babies — they’re also a powerful way to mark a personal identity journey. Whether you’re celebrating a gender transition, reclaiming your name, or marking a fresh chapter, your ceremony will be created with love, care, and full respect for your identity.
How far in advance should we book?
As soon as you have a date in mind — especially for weddings during peak seasons (spring/summer weekends). However, I’ll always do my best to accommodate last-minute bookings if I’m available.
