This week, as we marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, I found myself reflecting on why inclusive ceremonies matter so deeply to me, not just as a celebrant, but as a human being and an ally.
I believe love in all its forms deserves to be celebrated fully and unapologetically. Not simply tolerated, but embraced with warmth, joy and genuine acceptance. Every couple deserves a ceremony where they feel completely respected and celebrated exactly as they are.
Creating an inclusive ceremony is never about ticking boxes. It’s about holding space for people to show up authentically in their love, identity and story. That’s why every LGBTQIA+ wedding I officiate is centred around the people standing in front of me – their journey, their values and the life they’re building together.
There is something incredibly powerful about witnessing people live openly and honestly. In a world that can sometimes feel as though it is moving backwards rather than forwards, visibility matters more than ever. Compassion matters. Speaking up matters.
For me, an LGBTQIA+ wedding is about more than a legal ceremony or beautiful vows. It is a celebration of resilience, identity, connection and belonging. It is about creating a safe and joyful space where people can fully relax and feel loved for exactly who they are.
This week has been a reminder that inclusion is not just about words. It’s about action. It’s about making people feel welcome before they even walk into the room. It’s about challenging outdated ideas and celebrating the richness and diversity of human love.
Every LGBTQIA+ wedding I am part of reinforces why this work is so important. Love stories deserve to be told honestly and couples deserve ceremonies that reflect them authentically, without assumptions, about who they should be.
And honestly, the world becomes a more beautiful place when people are free to love openly and be celebrated wholeheartedly.
Whether I’m leading an intimate elopement, a joyful naming ceremony, or a big, laughter filled LGBTQIA+ wedding, my commitment remains the same, creating ceremonies where people feel safe, supported and completely themselves.
