Emma Green Celebrant

If you’ve ever looked at your partner and said:

“We don’t want anything cheesy.”

“We’re awkward in front of people.”

“We’re not very romantic.”

You’re in very good company.

As a North West celebrant, one of the biggest worries I hear from couples is that their wedding ceremony will feel awkward or cringe. In fact, it’s one of the first things many couples tell me when we meet. They aren’t worried about the flowers or the table plan, they’re worried about standing in front of everyone they know and feeling uncomfortable.

The good news is your wedding ceremony doesn’t have to feel awkward or cringe.

The biggest wedding myth

Somewhere along the way, we’ve been led to believe that every wedding ceremony has to look the same.

You have to stare deeply into each other’s eyes, deliver flawless, poetic vows and be intensely emotional from beginning to end.

If that genuinely feels like you as a couple, then wonderful, but if it doesn’t, there’s absolutely no reason to force it.

As a North West celebrant, I’ve seen that the most memorable ceremonies are the ones that reflect the people standing at the front.

Your ceremony should sound like you

Think about how you communicate every day. Do you make each other laugh? Do you tease each other constantly? Are you quiet and affectionate rather than overly expressive?

Your ceremony can reflect all of that.

Some couples want heartfelt romance, while others hers want plenty of humour. Some want a mixture of both. There isn’t a right or wrong way to celebrate your relationship, the only goal is authenticity.

Guests don’t want perfection

One of the biggest surprises for couples is that their guests aren’t judging them or hoping for an Oscar worthy performance.

They’re simply excited to witness two people they love making a lifelong commitment.

Guests connect with genuine moments far more than perfectly rehearsed ones.

A celebrant-led ceremony removes the pressure

Choosing a North West celebrant means your ceremony is written around your personalities rather than asking you to fit into someone else’s script.

If public displays of affection make you uncomfortable, we don’t need to include them. If you’d rather laugh than cry, that’s perfectly fine too. If you’re worried about standing awkwardly for ages, I’ll guide you through every part of the ceremony so you always know what’s happening next.

It’s about feeling comfortable, not performing

Your wedding day isn’t a performance, it’s a celebration.

My role is to help you feel relaxed, confident and completely yourselves from the moment you arrive until the moment you walk back down the aisle together.

Every North West celebrant has their own approach, but mine is simple. I create ceremonies where couples can relax, be themselves and actually enjoy every minute.

Because when you’re comfortable, everything else falls into place.

Your ceremony, your way

If your biggest wedding fear is that your ceremony will feel awkward or cringe, know this, it doesn’t have to.

Your ceremony should feel like an extension of your relationship, not a performance for your guests.

When it’s written with you in mind, you’ll spend less time worrying about what everyone else is thinking and more time enjoying one of the best moments of your lives.

After all, the best wedding ceremonies aren’t the most dramatic, they’re simply the most authentic.
